Hi everyone - I’m back. I haven’t written a blog for some time now and I have realised that I have actually missed doing so. I often jot down ideas for a blog and so I’ve decided to do something about it and so here I am again with my random thoughts.
I have recently returned from a holiday in Canada and Alaska and my lovely husband is busy writing blogs about our travels; along with examples of his sketches that he did on the trip. You can check him out at http://www.philipwestcott.co.uk/blog I spent my time not only writing a daily journal but I also wrote about my experiences of the scenery and landscapes that I saw in poetry and prose. The holiday was quite inspirational and I filled two notebooks! We arrived in Calgary for one night and then set off on a coach journey to Banff in the Rocky Mountains. On the journey we passed the Olympic ski resort, which looked vastly underused at this moment in time. Apparently, Canada had a recession after they had held the 1988 Winter Olympics and the area still looks a bit downbeat now. However, as usual I digress. On the journey I noticed the number of fir trees that lined the roads and they were cute so feeling inspired I wrote a short poem on the coach to record what I had seen. Here it is: Fir Trees on the road from Calgary to Banff As I pass by: Girly, curly Ballerina fir trees Delicately balance On the hillside. Twirling branches Upturned and graceful Dance in the breeze. Green skirt layers Ruffled and flexible Gently sway To a melody Of their own. Sue Westcott (C.) 2017
