The idea behind this section is two fold. Hopefully it will be helpful to teachers, teaching assistants, childminders and parents who want to help encourage children of all ages to write. I also hope that it will provide some suggestions to help a child get started and put their ideas down on paper.
The whole idea behind my website is that writing can be fun!
I have used all of my suggestions myself over a teaching career spanning 39 years and found them to be successful in motivating children to start writing with confidence.
I have also included some examples of different genres of writing that could be used as a stimulus, a template or as an example in a lesson or group activity.
Parents may want to look at these and try them at home. You never know they might come in handy when it has been raining for a few days and your children need something different to occupy themselves! Browsing through these ideas may help pass time during school holidays.
Looking through my suggestions I have noticed that I have addressed different audiences. Sometimes I have written to a child who might be reading the list or I have written as a former teacher to another teacher and finally I've written ideas as if I were writing to a parent! I hope they are aren't too confusing. It is obviously a section that I need to revisit, edit and reorganise.
Please let me know if you found any of these helpful. It is my hope to continue adding suggestions to this section.
